Membership

What is expected of a member?

Role

We welcome anyone, with or without experience, from 18 to 80 who enjoys singing, particularly classical choral works. We hope that by making an enthusiastic commitment to The Chigwell Choir, members will both enjoy and be enriched by the experience.

Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly rehearsals to be fully prepared for concerts.
  • Learn familiar and new music with enthusiasm.
  • Promote the musical excellence of the Choir by giving high quality performances.
  • Be responsible for numbered music scores on loan from libraries, publishers, or the Choir, and replace/reimburse the lenders in case of loss or damage.
  • Promptly return all borrowed items of music following concerts, as requested by the librarian.
  • Buy or sell a minimum of two tickets per concert.
  • Actively support fund raising activities by the Choir.
  • Use personal interests, skills and contacts to support the Choir.

Annual Membership Fees

New members pay a subscription of £65 (half the regular annual amount) for their first year of membership. Thereafter an annual subscription of £130 is payable each year, due at the start of the autumn term. This covers the three major concerts and the Christmas carol concert. The subscription is set each year by the committee and approved at the AGM in September.

Students in full time education pay half subscription, i.e. quarter subscription in their first year (£32.50) and half thereafter.

Instances of financial hardship are considered sympathetically by the committee on a case by case basis. Initially enquiries should be made to the Treasurer.

Support for Members

The membership secretary is responsible for welcoming new members, supporting members by providing information about the Society and its activities, and encouraging new membership.
